Lessons in style from the over 70s

This is my first post for about a month- I have had exams. ( I am currently studying for my certificate in marketing- alongside my current job) exams that have taken over my life for the past few weeks. I’m now back from the depths of text book hell, well at least til the next one!

Here on the blog I like to find people who are unique and break the mould when it comes to style. I have always admired older women/ men who manage to look glamorous and stylish. I have featured the wonderful Iris Apfel before, yet she is not alone, in her mission to break the style rules.

Street style is welcoming a new breed of preened pensioners who are redefining what it means to be stylish.

I have just discovered blogger Ari Seth Cohen, who blogs on advancedtyle.blogspot.com

On his blog Ari states he “roams the streets of New York looking for the most stylish and creative older folks. Respect your elders and let these ladies and gents teach you a thing or two about living life to the fullest. Advanced Style offers proof from the wise and silver-haired set that personal style advances with age”.

Ari has produced a new documentary/ film that explores the ever-enduring fashion sense of a group of age-defying women in their seventies and eighties, borne out of the story behind his phenomenal fashion blog. These daring dames have a envious sense of style creative that women a quarter of their age can only dream of. Some have even been snapped up by international fashion houses such as Lanvin since the filming!

Stylish is different to being fashionable. Personally I’d like to be stylish not fashionable. This film shows that whilst fashion is throwaway and a fad mindlessly followed by the younger generation, style is eternal. It cannot be defined by trends and seasons or by age.

For these women it seems to get better with age. A certain, devil may care attitude and an eye for the eccentric that only age can bring.

Has anyone seen the film? It came out in May apparently.
